On
a Personal Note:
Why I believe chiropractic care is essential to a
healthy, vibrant life:
I
see chiropractic as a health strategy. Many things are needed to
be healthy; eating right, sleeping, activity/moving and all of
your body parts working correctly.
The best definition of health that I have found is:
Chiropractic assists the health of your organs by providing them
with a good nerve supply so that they have the greatest chance
of working optimally. This is done in two ways. The first is
what most people think if there is a misalignment in the spine
or anything that puts pressure on a nerve, thus interfering with
control. The second is more important and less known. The brain
needs a balance of oxygen, nutrition and stimulation to
be
healthy. The brain
gets the bulk of its stimulation from the joint mechanoreceptor
which sends a barrage of messages which tells the brain where
the body is and the forces acting upon it (i.e. gravity). If a
joint is not moving properly (i.e. in a cast or misaligned) it
will not send the normal amount of messages up to the brain and
without adequate stimulation, the nerves (brain cell) starts to
degenerate and die. That
is why you do not see as much and why they put people in Velcro
braces so they can have some movement to help minimize brain
damage. So if you
have a loss of range of movement anywhere in your body, you have
a decreased signal going to the brain and the brain cells will
start to degenerate and die where ever that decreased
signal/stimulation supplies.
Why I Became a Chiropractor:
I
was dyslexic and had a learning disability as a child. At the age of 27, I read at a 5th grade level and
wrote at a 3rd grade level.
After one year of chiropractic care, I was reading and
writing at the college level and the dean at Mesa State granted
me special permission to take 24 college credits. It was then
that I pulled my first straight A report card!
Life Outside of the Office:
I
am a bit of a workaholic but when I have free time, I enjoy
working on projects and building things, especially restoring
cars. I love to play hard too, I am usually the oldest parent,
if not the only parent, playing with my sons and other kids on
the playground. I
enjoy just about any outdoor activity.
